TIDAL Enforces AI Music Labels and Monetization Limits From July 15

TIDAL is enforcing a new policy from July 15, 2026 that identifies fully AI-generated music, removes content tied to artist impersonation or fraud, and limits monetization for qualifying tracks. The move takes streaming-platform AI policy beyond disclosure alone and into discovery, rights protection, and royalty design. Labels, distributors, and artists now face a stronger need to document production workflows and metadata.

Three Core Measures

The confirmed measures include visible AI identification for fully generated music, removal of artist impersonation and fraudulent content, and exclusion of fully AI-generated tracks from royalties and direct sales. TIDAL has indicated that substantially AI-generated music may be covered later when detection becomes sufficiently reliable.

Metadata and Detection Accuracy

Implementation will depend on combining distributor disclosures with automated platform detection. Treating lightly AI-assisted works the same as predominantly generated works could penalize legitimate production, so transparency must be matched by careful classification and appeal processes.

ZEN View

Artists and independent labels should keep records of tools used, consent, training-source rights, voice and likeness permissions, and production steps. The key business test is not simply whether AI was used, but whether consent, credit, and compensation can be explained.
